“There is more ahead for this group.”

Adelaide 36ers head coach Mike Wells said his side will continue to grow after Monday night’s victory in Sydney.

The 36ers responded in a big way against the Kings, holding the hosts to just 12 points in the opening quarter.

Wells said the defensive effort and intensity was a huge reason for the 111-96 success at Qudos Bank Arena.

“We have a lot of weapons at the offensive end, but it’s how we lock in defensively,” Wells said.

“How we go in and rebound and close down those possessions.”

Adelaide got 74 points from Kendric Davis (30), Montrezl Harrell (25) and captain DJ Vasiljevic (19) and Wells said the trio spark the offense for the rest of the team.

“I put a lot on our three main guys, they got to get us into our offence,” Wells said.

“Great players make shots, but they also got to help facilitate offence.

“They got to get the ball through to our role guys.

“Trez, DJ and KD have gravity, then it’s our responsibility to get that ball through hands and get the open shot.

“To shoot 15/26 from three, go 22/24 from the free throw line and have 19 assists that’s an unselfish team, that’s obvious unselfish.”

Adelaide will battle Melbourne United this Saturday night at the Entertainment Centre for the first time since the incident at John Cain Arena, but Wells said his team is focused on the assignment ahead.

“It’s been interesting the past six weeks, it’s been something,” Wells said.

“But we are here and I hope (Monday night) isn’t our best win for the season.

“There is more ahead for this group.

“Our margin for error is pretty slim at the moment, we just have to go out there and do it.”

Adelaide will battle Melbourne United this Saturday at the Entertainment Centre from 5pm ACDT.
