“It just shows how much Adelaide loves their sport and it’s what brings people together.”

Adelaide 36ers captain DJ Vasiljevic said he ‘can’t wait’ to wear the green and gold in front of his new home fans.

Basketball Australia on Tuesday announced the Australian Boomers and Opals will play New Zealand in game one of a three-game Trans-Tasman Throwdown series at the Entertainment Centre on Wednesday, May 7.

Vasiljevic said the Adelaide fans have deserved the opportunity to see the national team after selling out every NBL25 regular season home game.

“So many fans have turned up the past two years, we’ve sold out everything,” Vasiljevic said.

“It’s good for the city and it’s good for the fans to have something to look forward to after the (NBL) season finishes.

“To look up to the players, come to the games, come meet us and inspire the next generation, that’s the reason why we play basketball.

“I can’t wait for the games, it’s going to be very exciting.”

Vasiljevic expects the Boomers to field a strong team, with the possibility of some NBA players available.

“You just have to wait and see what happens (in the NBA), but I will always put my hand up to wear the green and gold,” Vasiljevic said.

“It just shows how much Adelaide loves their sport and it’s what brings people together.

“I think we need to spread it (Boomers games) around a bit so everyone can come and watch.”
