Vale: Darryl Pearce
The Adelaide 36ers mourn the passing of club Hall of Fame legend Darryl Pearce.
Known as “The Iceman” Pearce, a two-time champion who played 374 NBL games across a 13-year career, passed away in Melbourne on Sunday night.
Adelaide 36ers Executive Chairman Grant Kelley said it was an incredibly sad day for the club.
“Darryl was one of our Invincibles and his no.4 jersey hangs proudly from the rafters,” Kelley said.
“He was an inaugural inductee to the club Hall of Fame, and one of the best shooters the NBL has ever seen.
“Our thoughts and prayers go to the entire Pearce family and the wider basketball community at this time.”
Pearce spent a decade at the 36ers and was the starting shooting guard in the club’s famous 1986 NBL championship victory.
The 191cm guard averaged 15.6 points, 3.2 assists and 2.1 rebounds across his career while shooting the three-pointer at nearly 42 per cent.
Pearce was inducted into the Australian Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002 and was also an NBL All-Star in 1990.
The club will honour Pearce’s legacy by observing a moment of silence, and wearing black armbands, during tonight’s match against Illawarra Hawks.
