Adelaide 36ers big man Kai Sotto can’t wait to represent the Philippines next week during the 2023 FIBA World Cup qualification window.

The Philippines play Lebanon in Beirut on August 26 before flying home to Manila to take on Saudi Arabia at City Arena on August 29.

Sotto is prepared for the rockstar welcome he will receive.

“Yeah for sure, it’s always a great feeling to go back home,” Sotto said.

“The fact I am playing for my country again is one of the best feelings, and it’s a dream come true to step out on the court in that Philippine jersey.”

Philippines is currently 2-2 at the start of Group E but will automatically qualifies for the FIBA World Cup as the host nation in 2023.

Even though his country is qualified, Sotto says the qualifying games are crucial for team chemistry, so the team is ready for the 2023 tournament.

“Every game you play as a competitor you try to win and that’s the goal for the next two games,” Sotto said.

“This will be a big challenge, especially Lebanon,” Sotto said.

Philippines, will be looking to rebound after crashing out in the quarter-finals of the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup in Jakarta last month with a 102-81 loss to Japan, will not only be bolstered by the return of Sotto, but NBA guard Jordan Clarkson will also play in the two matches.

“We have some pretty good players who are going to suit up and a good system so as long as we have a good preparation I think we will play good and get those two wins,” Sotto said.

“Lebanon really showed how good they are there (FIBA Asia Cup), but let’s hope we change that narrative this time around.

“That will be exciting, it’s going to be fun to watch.”
