Adelaide 36ers assistant coach Jamie Pearlman will join the Boomers for the next FIBA World Cup qualification window in Bahrain.

Pearlman, who is currently an assistant coach for Fraser Valley Bandits in the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) said it was an honour to be considered to join the green and gold.

“I’m just so grateful and thankful for this opportunity,” Pearlman said.

The chance to sit on the Aussie bench had a few hurdles, Pearlman said the timing was now right to join the Boomers.

“A while ago, Peter Lonergan from Basketball Australia had contacted me to find out my interest and the timing hadn’t always been right,” Pearlman said.

“That conversation had come around again and I was in touch with Brian Goorjian as well and this time the timing is right.”

The Boomers will play Bahrain in Bahrain on August 26 and against Iran on August 30 and Pearlman’s Bandits will finish their CEBL campaign on August 14.

Pearlman said he expects to see most of the team which won the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup in Jakarta last month.

“It’s all about availability so the squad will be announced soon but I’d imagine we would be keeping a majority of the team together,” Pearlman said.

The squad will include 36ers captain Mitch McCarron and team manager Jared ‘Jazzy’ Campbell.

“Macca has been fantastic over the years for the Boomers and is a great leader and di an amazing job at the Asia Cup,” Pearlman said.

“Jazzy is amazing at what he does, he’s a professional and nothing is ever too much for him, he’s elite in what he does.”
