Pioneers swingman to return to Mount Gambier in 36ers colours.

Adelaide 36ers swingman Nick Marshall can’t wait to get back to his home away from home court in Mount Gambier on Friday night.

Marshall and the 36ers will travel to Wulanda Recreation Centre for the first NBL24 pre-season clash against South East Melbourne Phoenix and the 198cm livewire said the game is a great opportunity.

“It’s very exciting, I have been playing there the past three years so it’s going to be great to get back there in a Sixers uniform, and put a show on for the fans,” Marshall told media on Tuesday.

The former North Adelaide Rockets junior moved to Mount Gambier Pioneers to play in the NBL1 South competition in 2021 and has had great success, taking his game to the next level.

Marshall was rewarded with his first NBL contracted roster spot for the NBL24 season and he knows what it takes to make the big league.

“It’s grind, it’s putting in a lot of hard work, putting in hours and trusting what I do, coming out everyday and giving my best, and really having fun playing basketball,” he said.

“There was that click last year where it started to feel a bit more comfortable out there and I kept growing and growing confidently.

“Guys were telling me every day at practice ‘just go out there and do what you do’ and it was about converting it from the practice court to the main court in front of all the fans.”

The 24-year-old is looking to continue his growth this season and do whatever it takes for the team to be successful.

“I want to just keep getting better, the minutes will come, I’m just here to do what the team needs me to do and convert all those to wins,” he said.

“I’ll play a bigger role this year, compared to a DP, but it’s about staying ready, when CJ calls me name, be ready to go in and just play confidently and make the right play.

“In the end, it’s about going out there and just playing basketball, CJ has been a big influence on me, he’s been giving me some hints and tips and continue to make the right plays.”
