Today marks an historic and exciting day for the Adelaide 36ers with the NBL Next Star Josh Giddey joining the Oklahoma City Thunder as the sixth pick in the first round for the NBA Draft 2021.

Josh joins fellow Australians, Luc Longley, Ben Simmons, Dante Exum, Thon Maker, and Andrew Bogut as a top 10 NBA draft pick.

Throughout his first professional season with the Adelaide 36ers, Josh averaged 10.9 points, 7.5 assists and 7.4 rebounds. He accumulated multiple accolades including three triple doubles, was the league leader in assists and was named NBL Rookie of the Year and Adelaide 36ers co-MVP.

Josh becomes the third NBL Next Star to be drafted directly after his NBL season, joining LaMelo Ball (pick three) and RJ Hampton (pick 24).

Josh said: "It's a dream come true so to be taken by the Thunder and to have them want me on their team it makes me feel really special and I couldn't be happier.

“Watching LaMelo and R.J. Hampton go through that same process and see how well their game translated from the NBL to the NBA gave me confidence going in that hopefully I can do something a little bit similar.

The Club are incredibly proud of Josh, and will watch his career eagerly as he continues his basketball journey.
