Newly signed Adelaide 36ers centre Isaac Humphries is thrilled to be back after signing a one-year deal on Wednesday.
The 211cm big man played two seasons at the 36ers before moving to Melbourne United for the NBL23 campaign.
Humphries said the decision to return to Adelaide was an easy one once free agency started.
“It’s cool to be back, it was very difficult to leave Adelaide and I feel very grateful and happy I can come back,” Humpries said.
“Adelaide was a city I fell in love with very quickly and I’m just very excited to be back around people I love and teammates that have become family to me.
The 2018 NBL Rookie of the Year said returning to the 36ers is a case of unfinished business and he can’t wait to get back into the 36ers blue.
“My situation last time I was here wasn’t ideal with injuries and that, but I’m healthy now, I pretty much played a full season with Melbourne last year, so give me a chance to come in and do my thing,” he said.
“Just give me a chance to prove myself to you guys because I really want to.”
Humphries said his relationship with head coach CJ Bruton was a massive factor in returning to Adelaide after just one season.
“We stayed in touch and we made it very clear last year when I went to Melbourne that we weren’t going to burn the bridge and shut the door,” Humphries said.
“When free agency started, I went to my team and said ‘I’m interested in Adelaide’ so we reached out and once there was mutual interest, we got it done.
“I didn’t take much convincing, but keeping in touch with CJ played a big part.
“It helps when you pretty much know everyone already, I looked at the roster and I know I can really do well in that system.”
