South Australian guard Michael Harris returns to Adelaide for NBL26

The Adelaide 36ers have strengthened their backcourt with the signing of Michael Harris on a two-year deal, with the second year being a mutual option.

Harris, who started his NBL career as a development player for the club during the 2019/20 season, returns to his hometown of Adelaide after spending 3 seasons with the Perth Wildcats. Harris brings scoring depth and defensive intensity to the squad with the 25-year-old guard developing into a reliable perimeter threat, known for his ability to knock down shots from deep and defend at a high level.

Head coach Mike Wells highlighted Harris’ shooting ability and defensive tenacity as key factors in the club’s decision to bring him in.

“When we looked at Michael’s game in detail, his ability to score stood out immediately. He’s an elite shooter with deep range, and he’ll provide an important scoring spark,” Wells said.

“Defensively, he’s also very sound and often takes on the challenge of guarding the opposition’s best player. That’s an area where he’ll make a real impact for us.”

His return to Adelaide is another positive for the club, as the 36ers continue to invest in homegrown talent without compromising on skill or fit.

GM of Basketball Matt Weston further added “We don’t sign players just because they’re from Adelaide, but when a local player is as talented as Michael, it makes bringing him home even more meaningful,” Weston said.

Harris has played 4 NBL seasons and has delivered a number of standout performances. Currently, he is playing in NBL1 South for the Frankston Blues and will meet up with the squad for pre-season later in the year in preparation for NBL26.
