“Trez impacts the game, he is going to create a lot of attention.”

Adelaide 36ers head coach Mike Wells says the fourth quarter spark from Montrezl Harrell was a great ending to an all-round team performance in Friday night’s win against Sydney Kings.

Harrell was huge down the stretch for Adelaide, scoring 11 of his 18 points in the final 10 minutes as the 36ers won their third consecutive match with an 89-79 win against the Kings.

Wells knows Harrell is a focus for the opposition, but was pleased with how his whole roster played a big part in the 10-point win in front of another sold out crowd of 9466 at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.

“There were a lot of guys who had a lot of moments, his (Harrell) moment just happened to be at the end,” Wells said post-match.

Wells said his side has been taking some small steps each week and was thrilled with how the group responded when the Kings cut a 16-point lead to just one in the final quarter.

“Our group is coming together both offensively and defensively with two bigs out there on the floor has been a credit to the group to how well they’ve connected,” Wells said.

“During time outs, we are talking about the right things, and we have taken a huge step forward.

“How we have been connected in the heat of the battle, in these close games against really good opponents, it’s a credit to all of our players.

“I thought our guys were really dialed in at practice this week, we did some different things at different times.”

After Sydney cut the margin to 68-67, Adelaide held the Kings to just one field goal in the next five minutes.

“You got to hang your hat on defence if you want to win at any level and I think these guys have really bought in to that level,” Wells said.

“The defence really kept us afloat there.”

Adelaide will be back in action on Sunday afternoon when the 36ers travel to John Cain Arena to battle Melbourne United, tip-off is at 4pm ACST and you can watch all the action live on 10BOLD and ESPN via Kayo Sports.
