Former Adelaide 36ers point guard Josh Giddey was thrilled to hear the news his Oklahoma City Thunder will play his former team in the NBLxNBA pre-season game in October.

The 2021 NBL Rookie of the Year said the opportunity to play in this game brought back a lot of memories.

“I was very excited, I knew the NBL and the NBA stuff, I remember watching it back when I was 15,” Giddey told adelaide36ers.com this week.

“It’s good to play against any NBL team, but for it to be the team I played with make sit a lot more exciting.

“I was rapt about the news and I can’t for them to get over here and play against them.”

Giddey said he knew there was potential of some pre-season games for this season.

“I was in Melbourne working out and someone mentioned it (the game) to me that a few teams were coming over and there were games being lined up,” he said.

“I heard Adelaide was one of the teams, but I didn’t know we were playing them until maybe a few weeks ago.

“To play against any Australian team I would’ve been happy with but for it to be the team which essentially helped me get to the NBA makes it that much more special.”

The 206cm point guard can’t wait to go against former teammates Sunday Dech and Daniel Johnson, while also looking forward to the battle with 36ers captain Mitch McCarron.

“To play against familiar faces who I have played against and who I have been teammates with, guys I’ve known a long time, so it’s going to be fun,” Giddey said.

“I’m going to tell my guys not to take them lightly because these Australian teams are very competitive and can really play.”
