Adelaide 36ers import power forward Robert Franks has signed to play for the Boston Celtics in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

Franks joins the Celtics, who lost the 2022 NBA Finals to Golden State Warriors, as part of their NBA Summer League roster to play in the July 7-17 event at the Thomas & Mack Centre and Cox Pavilion.

The 201cm power forward said he is thrilled to be given the opportunity to play at the NBA Summer League and the chance with the Celtics was two weeks in the making.

"They called my agent and they had me on their free agent list, but their Summer League roster was full," Franks said.

"But a few days ago a lot of their guys got traded and they needed new bodies for Summer League.

"They want to see me in person and see how it translates from there."

Franks, who signed a two-year deal last month, said he has the confidence now to show off his talents.

"I’m just going in excited with nothing to lose," Franks said.

Adelaide 36ers head coach CJ Bruton is just happy for Franks to get his opportunity

"I’m really excited for one of our players to be invited to play in Summer League,” Bruton said.

"It’s a success story not just for us, but for the league as well."

Franks joined the 36ers after an impressive NBL22 season, where he averaged 18.9 points and 8.9 rebounds per game and shot at 50 per cent from the field.

Boston’s opening match of the tournament is against Miami Heat on Sunday at 10am (Adelaide time) at Cox Pavilion.
