Davis wants team success, not big numbers

Adelaide 36ers import point guard Kendric Davis doesn’t care about stats, he only cares about getting wins.
Davis led from the front last Saturday night with a game-high 36 points and nine assists in the 111-94 victory against New Zealand Breakers at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
But, after scoring 73 points in the past two matches, Davis was thrilled to snap a four-game losing streak.
“Honestly, I don’t care (about the stats), you all care more than I do,” Davis said post-match.
“As long as we win, I get to sleep at night.”

Davis is averaging 34.3 points and 10 assists over the past three matches and was the first 36ers player to have consecutive 30-point, 10-assist games since Julius Hodge in 2009.
“When we lost last game (against Perth Wildcats), I couldn’t care less about the 37 (points), I was mad we gave that game away," Davis said.
“I don’t do well after losses, so I’m glad we got the win.”
Davis said head coach Mike Wells came to him in the lead up to his comeback game against the Wildcats and told him to be himself.
“Coach came to me and he said ‘we need you to be you’ and I put in a lot of hard work, extremely hard work,” Davis said.
“Coach challenged me to be me, defensively and as well to make sure everyone gets shots, just be me.
“I wanted to answer the challenge, but I’m still not happy though as we got a lot of work to be done.
“I just want to be me, and it all starts with me. When I’m clicking, we are clicking.”
Adelaide will be back in action this Saturday night when the 36ers travel to John Cain Arena to battle South East Melbourne Phoenix from 7.30pm ACDT.
