“I’m big on feeding my teammates, I’ll take eight assists over eight points any day of the week."

New Adelaide 36ers import point guard Kendric Davis said he can be the ‘missing piece’ to the NBL25 season puzzle.

Davis signed a one-year deal on Thursday for his first professional contract overseas after spending the 2023-24 season with NBA G-League club Santa Cruz Warriors.

“The last few days (since the signing) has been great, just soaking the moment in,” Davis said.

The 180cm point guard said the 36ers had been on the radar for some weeks, with GM of Basketball Operations Matt Weston making contact last month.

“Matt reached out to me a long time ago and he knew I had a chance of getting a two-way (deal) or a roster spot in the NBA,” Davis said.

“But he kept going and going and the past few weeks they picked it up very aggressive, they sat down with me and talked to my mum.

“I got the green light from mum, so I’m very happy.”

Davis, who has been playing for Portland Trail Blazers at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas said meeting head coach Scott Ninnis was a key decision maker for him.

“He told me there are a bunch of shooters around me, I have the best shooter in the league next to me in the backcourt, so that’s a good start,” Davis said.

“I’m the missing piece to the puzzle at the point guard spot.

“I like the style of play of playing fast, getting up and down and being able to play my game and get everybody involved.”

Davis had a game-high eight assists in the Trail Blazers’ 97-95 win over the Philadelphia 76ers this week and he prides himself on getting his teammates involved.

“I’m big on feeding my teammates, I’ll take eight assists over eight points any day of the week,” Davis said.

“Summer League has been really good, it’s a rollercoaster, but it’s all part of the journey.”

The 2024 NBA G-League All-Rookie Team member said his leadership from the point guard spot will be a feature of his game.

“I’m a leader, I take pride in being a leader, a winner, and I take pride in making everyone at the club happy,” Davis said.

“I just want to get a bunch of wins and make my teammates proud."
