Adelaide 36ers head coach CJ Bruton excited after his side responds to defeat Perth Wildcats

A 40-minute effort was what Adelaide 36ers head coach CJ Bruton wanted and that’s what he received in the 89-78 win against Perth Wildcats on Saturday night on Brett Maher Court at the Entertainment Centre.

The 36ers powered home, keeping the Wildcats scoreless in the first three and a half minutes of the final quarter, for the 11-point success.

Bruton was thrilled with the performance from his side, who responded less than 48 hours after falling to a home defeat to South East Melbourne.

“I’m excited for the players, I’m excited for the club, everyone did their best to play the brand of basketball that I visioned,” Bruton said post match.

“I mean the effort was there, I thought for 40 minutes, so I’m definitely excited.

“This was a grand final right, you want to stay in the hunt, you don’t want to let games get away.

“You shorten rotations, but I thought everyone, even the guys who didn’t touch the floor, the energy was great, they all made an impact.”

Isaac Humphries was the star of the night for the home side, scoring a game-high 26 points to go with eight rebounds and three steals, but Bruton was equally impressed with power forward Kyrnin Galloway’s impact off the bench, particularly in the second half.

“I’m happy for KG (Galloway), everyone thinks making shots is how you effect a ball game, and we all know that’s not how you do it,” Bruton said.

“But having a weapon which he does, it’s only a matter of time before he gets going, and it was nice to see the crowd get behind him and support him.

“I wanted them to stand up and get up on their feet a little more and celebrate. I want to see that more, it helps our guys, their energy, our players grow another leg.”

Bruton said Humphries has been brilliant to start the NBL24 season and Saturday night’s performance shows the importance the 211cm centre brings to his squad.

“I’m very proud of him, this whole season,” Bruton said.

“But this game, his pose, his ability to make decisions, his defensive presence backing up from a loss to the impact he made today, he’s grown another leg.”

Adelaide will be back in action on Thursday night when the 36ers travel to New Zealand to battle the Breakers at Spark Arena.
