2023 DP Tryout camp: Players revealed

Adelaide 36ers will give the chance for the next generation of players to shine and stake their claim and showcase their skills at the next level.

The club will stage its annual two-day Development Player tryout camp this week where over 20 players have been invited to showcase their skills at the next level.

Sturt Sabres shooting guard and former California Baptist Lancer Keanu Rasmussen, who will compete at the two-day event, has already signed as the first of the 36ers’ four Development Player spots earlier this month.

The final three Adelaide 36ers NBL24 Development Players will be selected at the two-day event.

Kalani Sapwell
The son of three-time NBL championship-winner Rupert Sapwell, Kalani Sapwell has been running the point for Central District in the NBL1 Central competition.

During the Lions’ 2023 campaign, point guard Sapwell has been averaging 9.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists per night.

 

Dylan Marshall
Marshall, the brother of rostered swingman Nick Marshall, moved to Mount Gambier Pioneers to ply his trade in the NBL1 South competition after starting his career at North Adelaide Rockets.

During the 2023 NBL1 South season, Marshall has been averaging 7.4 points and 2.3 rebounds per game and has stepped up in recent weeks due to the Pioneers’ mounting injury list.

 

Alex Dodson
Dodson, a Norwood junior who has broken into the Flames' NBL1 Central squad this season, is one of the youngest players to get court time in the competition.

The big man was a standout junior, making multiple national championship teams for SA Metro and was part of the Australian Crocs Under 17 squad.

 

Magok Manyang
Manyang has spent the past few seasons in the US college system at Louisana State University at Eunice and has returned to play at his junior club Central District in the NBL1 Central.

The 201cm forward has been an instant impact for the Lions, scoring 13.9 points and grabbing 6.8 rebounds per night since his return this season.

 

Harvey White
A 191cm point guard, White represented South Australia at the 2023 Under 20 National Championships in Geelong where he was captain and a starter.

White, a former Forestville Eagles junior now Sturt product, has also made the Sabres’ NBL1 Central program for the 2023 season.

Fraser Roxburgh
The Adelaide 36ers NBL23 Development Player has made the move from Victoria full-time and is playing for West Adelaide this NBL1 Central season.

Roxburgh, 18, is averaging 12.9 points and 4.7 rebounds per night for the Bearcats so far this season and has made his way into the starting line-up in recent weeks.

 

Sean Stock
Stock has made his way into the West Adelaide Bearcats NBL1 Central rotation in 2023, and the guard has a great mentor in fellow Bearcat and Adelaide 36ers captain, Mitch McCarron.

The 189cm guard also represented South Australia at the 2023 Under 20 National Championships in Geelong and so far this NBL1 Central season, is averaging 7.4 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists per night.

 

James Mackenzie
The Forestville Eagles junior was a standout for SA Metro at the recent Under 18 National Championships in Brisbane.

Mackenzie is a combo guard who can score the ball and has spent time at Adelaide 36ers trainings during the NBL23 season.

 

Sam Hughes
Hughes, a 185cm shooting guard, has had a stellar junior career, which includes representing Australia at the 2022 FIBA Oceania championships.

The Forestville junior was also a stand out at the Under 16 National Championships in 2022, his game-high 29 points was a highlight in the semi-final against Victoria Metropolitan.

 

Curtis Scott
Scott, a 190cm point guard, spent time at Ottawa University Braves in the NCAA and played in 23 games, making one start in his first collegiate season, avergaing 1.4 points and 0.7 rebounds per game while shooting 46.4 percent from the field. 

The Southern Tigers junior played for South Australia in the Under 20 National Championships in 2022 and has now made the move to South Adelaide to play in the NBL1 Central competition. 

 

Awak Machar
One of the shining lights for Southern Tigers during the 2023 NBL1 Central campaign, Machar has shown his ability at the next level.

The 19-year-old Machar is averaging 6.9 points and 2.6 rebounds per night and is getting extended minutes for the Tigers.

 

Jack Stanwix
Stanwix made the move from Hobart Chargers to Norwood to play in this year’s NBL1 Central season and has made an instant impact with the Flames.

The shooting guard has become one of the premier players in the NBL1 Central competition, averaging 17.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists per match, including a match-winning 40-point performance against Southern Tigers.

Lloyd McVeigh
Recruited by South Adelaide to play in their 2023 NBL1 Central campaign, McVeigh has had some outstanding performances for the Panthers this season.

McVeigh, the younger brother of Tasmania JackJumper Jack McVeigh, spent NBL23 as a training player in the Apple Isle and has impressed for South Adelaide throughout 2023, including a standout 29 points against Eastern Mavericks in Round 9.

 

Patrick D’Arcy
D’Arcy played a pivotal role for South Australia Metro at the Under 18 National Championships in Brisbane earlier this year, combining with Dodson for 53 points in a win against Queensland North.

The Sturt Sabres junior is part of the Basketball SA Emerging Athlete program and was also a stand out for SA Metro at the 2022 Under 18 National Championships as a bottom age player.

 

Ngor Nai
Nai was recruited by Central District to play in the 2023 NBL1 Central season from NBL1 North side Southern Districts and he also spent the 2021 NCAA season at Baton Rouge.

The 208cm centre has been a key factor for Lions this season, averaging 15 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per night.

 

Stefan Gould
The Forestville junior has played his way into the Eagles’ NBL1 Central rotation this season to great effect, which included a season-high 14 points and five rebounds in Round 9 against Southern Tigers.

Gould also played for South Australia at the Under 20 National Championships in Geelong earlier this season and the forward had breakout games against Tasmania (17 points and 21 rebounds) and New South Wales (20 points and 12 rebounds).

 

Akech Aliir
Aliir, who made the switch from NBL1 East club Canberra Gunners to join North Adelaide for the 2023 season, has been a key component in the Rockets making their NBL1 Central playoff charge.

The 200cm forward has been pouring in 18.1 points and 12.4 rebounds per night for the Rockets while also taking some major defensive assignments against the competition’s best big men.

Jasper Rentoy
Rentoy was recruited by the Eastern Mavericks to play in the NBL1 Central season from NBL1 East side Inner West Bulls.

The point guard has led from the front for Eastern so far this season, averaging 12.6 points, 7.5 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game.

 

Keanu Rasmussen
Rasmussen has already signed as one of the four Adelaide 36ers Development Players for NBL24 and the Sturt junior has been proving his worth since his return to the Sabres for the 2023 NBL1 Central season.

The 188cm combo guard is back in Adelaide after spending two seasons at California Baptist Lancers in the NCAA Division One College system.

 

Ben Griscti
Griscti, a 208cm forward/centre, has spent the past two seasons at UIW Cardinals in the NCAA where he was a starter in 24 of his 32 games.

The Sturt Sabres junior has played in the Under 17 Australian team at the FIBA Men’s Oceania Championship in 2019, the same year he won the Under 18 Player of the Year award.

 

Nate Deer
Deer, a 206cm centre, has just returned from his first season at Howard College, an NJCAA Division One school in the US.

The big man is back for a second season at Central District in the NBL1 Central competition after making the move from Norwood Flames, where he played as a junior.

 

Jacob Rigoni
Rigoni is back in Adelaide playing the 2023 NBL1 Central season for Sturt Sabres afer spending the past season playing for ART Giants Dusseldorf in the German Pro A league.

Before his stint in Germany, Rigoni spent five seasons in the US college system at Quinnipiac Bobcats in the NCAA Division One competition.
